Sheffield Philatelist Ltd. is pleased to announce the offering of the entire
philatelic holdings of the late John (Joop) Reckman.
A
native of The Netherlands, Joop lived most of his life in the city of Haarlem,
about 12 miles west of Amsterdam.
The
Reckman family can trace it's roots in the city of Haarlem to the late
1600's, where generation after generation were renowned antique dealers.
The Reckman business dealt with many antique dealers and collectors from
the United States. This was especially true in the 1960's and 1970's when
former military personnel returned to the country where they served during
WWII.
The Reckman's were avid stamp collectors. Joop's father and grandfather had sizable collections which he in turn inherited. At eight years of age Joop had already received recognition for his stamp collecting in various categories. Throughout his life he continued to build his collections, accumulating not only the stamps from his native Holland, but the rest of the world as well. In his early retirement years the Reckman family moved to Canada, taking with them the entire stamp collection amassed over the years. While in Canada, Joop continued adding to his collections purchasing from major auction houses in the United Kingdom and Europe. Unfortunately, a few years ago failing health prevented him from continuing his life-long passion. In the summer of 1998 Joop passed away. This massive holding, assembled over three generations, arrived at our offices packed in 233 cartons! It will be offered in our public stamp auctions during 1999-2000. Copies of the catalogues and the prices realized for each sale are available by annual subscription.
