collection of ARLIS DRIFT STATION covers presented in exhibition format on album leaves. Contains 60 USA cacheted covers, 6 Russia, and 1 Germany with cancels from 1955 through 1975 along with a wealth of information on latitude and longitude station locations, maps with iceburg locations and more. ARLIS (Arctic Research Laboratory Ice Stations) were a series of US-operated drifting ice stations in the Arctic Ocean during the 1960s. They were established to conduct scientific research on the Arctic environment, including physical oceanography, micrometeorology, sea ice physics, marine biology, and marine geology and geophysics. ARLIS I, ARLIS II, ARLIS III, and ARLIS IV were the main stations, with ARLIS I and II being the most significant. A wonderful collection, very fine in all respects
